“Natural Resources” Blessings of the God!!

Natural resources define as materials that occur in nature and are beneficial to humans such as water, air, land, forests,  wildlife,  fossil fuels and minerals. Thorough out civilization, the use of these resources has been a major factor in the continuation of the expansion of human life as we already know. The use of these resources by our ancestors   years ago contrary with the advanced  stage where the  collection, and detection of natural resources has become a main focus because of our over usage.   Especially the use of fossil fuels, the impact of energy
production on the environment has intensified with industrialization  throughout the 19th century and well into the 20th, coal, the dirtiest fossil fuel, drove the Industrial Revolution and left its mark as a heavy cloud that darkened the skies over the industrial centers. With the development of the gasoline, internal-combustion engine in the early 1900s marked the beginning of the ascent of oil as the main source of energy in the United States. Today the focus of natural resources have changed, they have now become a focus for energy, the collection and sale of that energy from the countries that have, to the ones that don't.
There is much debate worldwide over natural resource allocations, this is partly due to increasing scarcity and also because the exportation of natural resources is the basis for many economies particularly for the developing nations. The natural resources are materials, which living organisms can take from nature  for sustaining their life or any components of the natural environment that can be utilized by man to promote his welfare is considered as natural resources.

We can manage ........................

Natural resource management means management of natural resources such as land, water, soil, plants, animals etc.... . and how the management affect the life of present and future generations. The concern about the environment and natural resources management have arisen because of the depletion of finite natural resources. the resources like clean water, air, fuel, land, forests are becoming increasingly scarce. If these resources depletes too fast , with out the possibility of regeneration it will be a great problem for the future generation.
When industrial revolution started the world population was at 600 million but now in the present it is about 10 times at 7 billion and one has experienced the fastest development & modern lifestyle requirements by humans.so when we over exploit natural resources the damage cause to the environment is also high. So we have to mange the natural resources .
we can manage natural resources by "The Three R's" concept.
  1. Reduce
  2. Reuse
  3. Recycle
Reduce :- Reduce means the Waste minimization, the process and the policy of reducing the amount of waste produced by a person or a society or  less use of resources and not wasting the resources.

Reuse :- Reuse is using the resources more than once and there are some advantages of reuse.
  • Reduced disposal needs and costs.
  • Energy and raw materials savings as replacing many single use products with one reusable one reduces the number that need to be manufactured.
  • Cost savings for business and consumers as a reusable product is often cheaper than the many single use products it replaces.
Recycle :- Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, metal, plastic, textiles, and electronics. Recycling means process of used materials (waste) into new products to prevent waste of useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution.

And also we can do reforestation that means the restocking forests depleted by deforestation. This can be used to improve the quality of life because it help clear the atmosphere from toxic gases and also in balancing of carbon dioxide in atmosphere and rebuild natural habitats & Eco-system.

Natural Resources are running out..........!!!

So first we talk about "what are natural resources" ????? Natural resources are the things that exist naturally in the earth and not made by human beings such as air, land, water, coal, oil, petroleum, wood, minerals, fauna, flora, forests, petroleum etc............ and also we can divide them as renewable and nonrenewable. renewable are the are the once that can be replenished naturally like animal life, plants, wind etc... and nonrenewable resources are form extremely slowly and do not naturally form in environment such as diamonds, fossil fuel, ore, natural gas etc............. .
The planet we live (Earth) is 8,000 miles wide and 24,000 miles circumference.we humans are at population of 7 billion people and it's increasing million and half people every week, so it's really crowded and it's time to us to take a look, the problem of "running out of NATURAL RESOURCES" that cause because of this overpopulation.
More than one third of the natural world has already been destroyed by man and this has happened in just the last 30 years. That is not all, because the forest cover on the planet has already started to sink by about 12% and biodiversity in the oceans has been depleted by 33% while the rate at which the freshwater ecosystem is being depleted stands at a staggering 55%. It is estimated that the population of the world will reach 9 billion in 2050. So if we continue over exploitation  of natural resources at this rate definitely we have to face this problem in next few decades. otherwise we have to find alternate solutions for this matter like colonizing in outer space in near future or finding alternate resources - eg:- instead of OIL using solar power, wind power etc.........

Natural Resourses ...

Natural Resources, well the oxford dictionary meaning of it is "materials or substances occurring in nature which can be exploited for economic gain"  or natural resources can be defined as energy sources, minerals..etc. which exist naturally in a place that can be used by people.
                                                   These days natural resources basically act as a foundation in human life. They support almost every revolutionary work done by human kind. They are the gifts of mother nature. Natural Resources can be categorize according to various facts like;
  • Source of origin
  • Stage of development
  • Renewability
Sources of Origin:
  1. Biotic : resources that are obtained from the biosphere
  2. Abiotic:resources that are comig from non-living, non-organic material
Stage of Development:
  1. Potential Resources: Resources that are existing in a region and they my be used in the future
  2. Actual Resources: Resources that are being used in the present
  3. Reserve Resources: The parts of actual resources that are reserved for future
  4. Stock Resources: The resources which we cannot use because of lack of technology

Renewability:
  1. Renewable resources: Resources that are being replenished naturally
  2. Non-renewable resources: Resouces that form extremly slowly and those donot form naturally in the environment. Minerals are good examples.
If we consider about SRI LANKA there are many natural resources found in various parts of the country. Graphite, clay, gems, lime etc... are some examples. And also with the geographical location of Sri Lanka "Wind" is used in several industries. And also these types of Natural Resources support in a great amount to uplift the country's income.

All these types of Natural Resources are subjected to the same problem. That is "Depletion of Natural resources". In recent years, the depletion of natural resources has become a major focus of  everybody. World is trying it's best to overcome this problem and safeguard the natural resources for the future.

what are resourses??

WHAT ARE NATURAL RESOURCES?????

Natural resources are naturally occurring substances that are considered valuable in their relatively unmodified (natural) form. A natural resource’s value rests in the amount of the material available and the demand for it. The latter is determined by its usefulness to production. A commodity is generally considered a natural resource when the primary activities associated with it are extraction and purification, as opposed to creation. Thus, mining, petroleum extraction, fishing, hunting, and forestry are generally considered natural-resource industries, while agriculture is not. The term was introduced to a broad audience by E.F. Schumacher in his 1970s book Small is Beautiful.

Classification of natural resources

Natural resources are mostly classified into renewable and non-renewable resources. Renewable resources

Renewable resources are generally living resources (fish, reindeer, coffee, and forests, for example), which can restock (renew) themselves if they are not over-harvested but used sustainably. Once renewable resources are consumed at a rate that exceeds their natural rate of replacement, the standing stock (see renewable energy) will diminish and eventually run out. The rate of sustainable use of a renewable resource is determined by the replacement rate and amount of standing stock of that particular resource. Non-living renewable natural resources include soil and water.

Flow renewable resources are very much like renewable resources, only they do not need regeneration, unlike renewable resources. Flow renewable resources include renewable energy sources such as the following renewable power sources: solar, geothermal, biomass, landfill gas, tides and wind.

Resources can also be classified on the basis of their origin as biotic and abiotic. Biotic resources are derived from living organisms. Abiotic resources are derived from the non-living world (e.g., land, water, and air). Mineral and power resources are also abiotic resources some of which are derived from nature.

Non-renewable resources

A non-renewable resource is a natural resource that exists in a fixed amount that cannot be re-made, re-grown or regenerated as fast as it is consumed and used up.
Some non-renewable resources can be renewable but take an extremely long time to renew. Fossil fuels, for example, take millions of years to form and so are not practically considered ‘renewable’. Many environmentalists proposed to tax on consumption of non renewable resources.

Natural capital

Natural resources are natural capital converted to commodity inputs to infrastructural capital processes. They include soil, timber, oil, minerals, and other goods taken more or less from the Earth. Both extraction of the basic resource and refining it into a purer, directly usable form, (e.g., metals, refined oils) are generally considered natural-resource activities, even though the latter may not necessarily occur near the former.

A nation’s natural resources often determine its wealth and status in the world economic system, by determining its political influence in. Developed nations are those which are less dependent on natural resources for wealth, due to their greater reliance on infrastructural capital for production. However, some see a resource curse whereby easily obtainable natural resources could actually hurt the prospects of a national economy by fostering political corruption. Political corruption can negatively impact the national economy because time is spent giving bribes or other economically unproductive acts instead of the generation of generative economic activity. There also tends to be concentrations of ownership over specific plots of land that have proven to yield natural resources.

In recent years, the depletion of natural capital and attempts to move to sustainable development have been a major focus of development agencies. This is of particular concern in rainforest regions, which hold most of the Earth’s natural biodiversity – irreplaceable genetic natural capital. Conservation of natural resources is the major focus of natural capitalism, environmentalism, the ecology movement, and Green Parties. Some view this depletion as a major source of social unrest and conflicts in developing nations.Other information sources
